“Free Yourself”

DIGITAL CAMERA

“Free Yourself” was inspired by German artist Hannah Höch.

This photoshopped image is a mock of Höch’s photo collages. Although it does not express critical issues like Höch’s artwork it pokes fun at spirituality with an Oprah Winfrey twist. Two ideas that do not really go hand in hand but makes sense in the conceptual world.

Höch’s artwork was based on political issues and harsh treatment within the German government during the early 1900s where the term photomontage came about. Artist Höch was a significant representation of the Dada Movement, also known as the conceptual art movement. Her ideas to create collages came from the works of Pablo Picasso and fellow Dada poet and mixed-media artist Kurt Schwitters.

“I wish to blur the firm boundaries which we self-certain people tend to delineate around all we can achieve,” – Hannah Höch
